The HSBC Classic is one of North America's most unique and largest high school basketball tournaments. With over 2,000 athletes (128 competing school teams), and approx. $100,000 to award annually - mostly in scholarships, plus gifts and other awards, and this year's event will again be the largest and most exciting pre-season high school tournament of the year.
The experience of participating in high quality sporting events from high school tournaments right up to the Olympics and NBA championships has helped to mould this tournament concept.
The Concept
An annual basketball tournament featuring various different divisions including:
High School Boys Division
High School Girls Division
Elementary Age Boys School Division
Elementary Age Boys Club Division
Elementary Age Girls School Division
Wheelchair Division
First Nations Division
Youth with Development Challenges Division
Cheerleading & Dance Division
Night Hoops Division
|
| The HSBC Basketball Classic focuses on the character, community contributions and academics of the participants, coaches and managers (team managers are equally eligible for the scholarships) as opposed to pure athletic prowess. There are no MVP's or first or second team Allstars - simply Allstars. Rather, the Gil Puder Outstanding Citizen / Player Award, the Quinn Keast Most Complete Player Award, the Global Links/Tom Tagami Coaching Excellence Award, the Randy Sung Most Sportsmanlike Team Trophy, the Pricewaterhouse Coopers Leadership Scholarship, and the Honourable Senator Larry Campbell Unsung Hero Trophy. |
