What is the HSBC Basketball Classic?

The HSBC Basketball Classic is a unique and exciting community event. Founded 9 years ago, it is one of the most inclusive and inspiring opportunities for basketball enthusiasts across the Lower Mainland, awarding over $520,00 to-date in scholarships..

With approximately 2,000 high school students and other local community members participating, the weeklong event kicks off the basketball season for the players, fans and coaches within the Lower Mainland. But the event is much more than just a basketball tournament. It includes Boys and Girls High School Basketball Divisions as well as a First Nations, Cheerleading/Dance, Youth with Developmental Challenges, Elementary School Age - Boys, Girls and Club Divisions, Night Hoops [at risk youth] and Wheelchair Basketball Divisions.

The HSBC Basketball Classic focuses on the character, community contributions and academics of the participants, coaches and managers (team managers are equally eligible for the scholarships) as opposed to pure athtletic prowess. There ar no MVP's, rather, the Gil Puder Outstanding Citizen / Player Award, the Quinn Keast Most Complete Player Award, the Global Links/Tom Tagami Coaching Excellence Award, the Randy Sung Most Sportsmanlike Trophy, and the Honourable Senator Larry Campbell Unsung Hero Trophy and no first or second team Allstars - simply Allstars!
